Rachel Lewis,
I am reading Growing Slow by Jennifer Dukes Lee right now 。。。 and I appreciate her ability to find meaningful, teachable moments in the mundane。 She serves as a reminder that our lives are not so easily dichotomized as we might imagine — our every day is the sacred and our sacred the every day。There is a quote by Kristen Howerton that I love。 That Christians love a good redemption story, but hate the messy middle。 Jennifer writes from the messy middle。 She does not say, “Look where I used to be, I am reading Growing Slow by Jennifer Dukes Lee right now 。。。 and I appreciate her ability to find meaningful, teachable moments in the mundane。 She serves as a reminder that our lives are not so easily dichotomized as we might imagine — our every day is the sacred and our sacred the every day。There is a quote by Kristen Howerton that I love。 That Christians love a good redemption story, but hate the messy middle。 Jennifer writes from the messy middle。 She does not say, “Look where I used to be, but I fixed that。 Now do what I do。” Instead she reaches a warm hand out and says, “Yeah, I struggle with that too。 This road can be lonely。 How about we walk together for a bit?”Reading her first several chapters reminds me of a breathing practice I use for mindfulness: Inhale, hold。 Exhale, hold。 Repeat。That is Jennifer’s book。 It’s not just a call to inhale: to consume, to rest, nourish yourself。 It’s not just a call to exhale: to produce, trust deeply, and lower expectations。It is a call to embrace the natural rhythms of life。 To embrace all four seasons as they come。 And to hold space for all the moments in between。It is a call to grow slow。Inhale, hold。 Exhale, hold。 Repeat。 。。。more
Carina Alanson,
I’ve never been a fast-paced person (my second-grade teacher told me I was as slow as molasses in January), and all my life I’ve felt the pressure to move faster and to get more done。 This personal and cultural mindset has caused me a lot of stress and, sadly, at times, stolen my joy。 This has been the case especially as an aspiring book author—it just feels like there’s so much to do and I have so far to go, not just in terms of writing but in terms of building a platform, networking, etc。 It’s I’ve never been a fast-paced person (my second-grade teacher told me I was as slow as molasses in January), and all my life I’ve felt the pressure to move faster and to get more done。 This personal and cultural mindset has caused me a lot of stress and, sadly, at times, stolen my joy。 This has been the case especially as an aspiring book author—it just feels like there’s so much to do and I have so far to go, not just in terms of writing but in terms of building a platform, networking, etc。 It’s easy to feel discouraged by my slow growth。So Jennifer Dukes Lee’s permission to resist the pressure to hurry and instead relax into the rhythms of slow growth has been such a relief。 In Growing Slow, she points out that growth, by nature, is slow and unhurried and that we don’t have to worry that we’re not further along。 She helps us understand and embrace the fact that growth is a process and that “life is not an emergency。”She also talks about how while God has given us work to do—our field to work, so to speak—we ourselves are also God’s field。 He is at work in us, cultivating His love and characteristics in the deep recesses of our hearts, and that internal transformation is what matters most。I’ve recently read several books on living an unhurried life, and they’ve all been great。 But Jennifer’s book is definitely on one of my favorites, and it has encouraged me and touched my heart in a really special way。 God knew her message is exactly what I need right now!If Growing Slow sounds like just what your soul needs too, I highly recommend this book! 。。。more

Tracy,
Growing Slow is a book about learning to slow down and trust God with the details of your life。 This book came at the perfect time for me and I really like its message。 I've highlighted so many lines as I read it。 What resonated with me is this-not only okay, it is also wise, to push back from the harried lifestyle our culture promotes。 Working slowly toward whatever it is you want, and trusting God with the process, even when you can't see it, produces a rich harvest and a satisfying life。 I fe Growing Slow is a book about learning to slow down and trust God with the details of your life。 This book came at the perfect time for me and I really like its message。 I've highlighted so many lines as I read it。 What resonated with me is this-not only okay, it is also wise, to push back from the harried lifestyle our culture promotes。 Working slowly toward whatever it is you want, and trusting God with the process, even when you can't see it, produces a rich harvest and a satisfying life。 I feel like there is something for everyone in this book。 。。。more
Holley Hicks,
If you’ve been like me and thought you have to do it all all at once or you might as well do nothing, then this is the book for you! The art of “Growing Slow” shared by Jennifer Dukes Lee in the pages of this book will help us to slow down, find peace and rest for our souls, and focus on what really matters。 The little things really do matter most and slow growth is growth that will last!
Diane Belcher,
This next book in the Jennifer Dukes Lee collection does not disappoint。 For those of us who find ourselves hurried through life and never slowing down this is the perfect read。 I learned the truth about why I do that too。 I found that I’m hurrying and staying rediculously busy so I didn’t have to grieve a profound loss in my life。 Jennifer is so good at touching my heart and working through God。 This book is a must read。
Amanda Rouleau,
Life moves so quickly and the older I get the faster it goes! From outside pressures to internal battles I can more often than not feel like I am never keeping up or becoming anything worthy! This book Growing Slow has touched my heart so deeply! It’s helped me to realize I can grow at the pace God has for me and become who He wants! It’s shown me that living at God’s pace for me allows me to see more of His blessings and beauty in the life He’s given me!
